Trek Bikes celebrated the Grand Opening of its Skyland Town Center location on Sept. 16. Store manager Keith Jackson organized a celebration complete with food, prizes, music and a group bike ride to the Anacostia Museum.
The Skyland location is Trek’s first All In Development store, part of a commitment the company made in 2020 to invest $5 million over the next three years to establish new bike shops in underserved neighborhoods in an effort to improve access to bicycles and create jobs.
Store manager Jackson wants to use the store as a community center of sorts, centered on making biking opportunities more accessible to DC residents who live east of the Anacostia River. He also plans to host concerts and other events. The store is staffed by people who live in the neighborhood.
The Skyland location is Trek’s second DC store and the only bike retailer in Ward 7. Skyland Town Center was developed by WC Smith and Rappaport.
