Opened for occupancy in April 2021, The Crest is the first newly constructed market-rate residential property to open east of the Anacostia River in the last 40 years. Many of the new residents are teachers and public sector employees; nearly one-third come from Washington’s Wards 7 and 8.
WC Smith Chairman and CEO Chris Smith noted that the award is a recognition of the development team’s effort, as well as a tribute to the residents of Ward 7, whose vision and persistence have been a driving force behind the success of Skyland Town Center.
All of The Crest’s 263 units feature Energy Star washers and dryers, stainless steel appliances, wood laminate flooring and granite countertops. Some apartments have kitchen islands, walk-in closets and balconies. Among the amenities at The Crest are a courtyard pool and grills, resident lounge, fully equipped fitness center, attached parking garage, bike storage, resident storage and a dog park and dog wash station.
The building (2219 Town Center Drive SE) also features 84,500 square feet of retail and is home to CVS Pharmacy and a Chase Bank Community Center. Future retail tenants include Roaming Rooster, Fuji Steakhouse and Sushi, Skyland Nails and Spa, and Like That barber shop.
