DC Ward 4 Councilmember Janeese Lewis George, DC Department of Housing and Community Development Deputy Director Drew Hubbard and DC Housing Finance Agency (DCHFA) Executive Director Christopher E. Donald joined WC Smith July 15 to celebrate the ribbon cutting of Petworth Station, our renovated property that preserves existing and provides new high quality affordable housing to residents of Ward 4.
Tenants and community leaders were on hand as well to mark the substantial completion of the project.
Petworth Station is the substantial renovation of a three-building garden apartment community adjacent to the Petworth Metro Station. The project is in partnership with the Petworth Station Tenants’ Association, the Latino Economic Development Center and Bread for the City.
All 78 existing apartments have been or will be fully renovated. Ten new units were added, as well as an on-site rental office, renovated community room and laundry rooms. The project features a new entrance intercom system, new roofs and windows, new plumbing and electric and new lighting, flooring and bathrooms.
The renovation includes new individual energy efficient HVAC & hot water heaters, new Energy Star appliances and windows. The buildings will exceed Enterprise Green Communities certification.
