Community Festival Draws 1,500 to THEARC

Nearly 1,500 people attended the Good Times Community Festival, a back-to-school fair held at THEARC on Aug. 27.

The annual event, sponsored by Building Bridges Across the River, WC Smith and many individual supporters, features food, games/activities and backpacks and school supplies for children. This year, 700 backpacks were donated, including ones from WC Smith employees and residents.

Nearly 300 of the backpacks and many school supplies were donated by employees of the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, the agency that manages Reagan National and Dulles Airports.

The Meridian Group, a real estate investment management firm headquartered in Bethesda, also contributed backpacks.

New to the festival in 2023 was the participation by Community Cuts for Kids, which provided more than 150 free haircuts and stylings to area children as they readied to start the new school year.
