Avec on H, a WC Smith property, has been worked to assist organizations and schools in its Capitol Hill neighborhood.
This school year, Avec will provide 25 parking spaces in its garage for teachers and staff at School Within School, a DC public school located at 920 F St. NE.
In DC, public school teachers and staff are allowed to receive residential street parking permits for the parking zone where their school is located, even if they do not live in that zone. The arrangement can result in fewer parking spots for residents of the neighborhood.
To try to help ease the situation, Roberta Shapiro, the ANC Commissioner representing the neighborhood surrounding SWS, approached WC Smith with the idea of offering parking to teachers at Avec.
“With no hesitation, W.C. Smith offered a very significant number of free parking spaces for the teachers and staff, beginning in the next school year,” Shapiro said. “This is a win-win for the school staff and for the school’s neighbors.”
Avec also sponsored a Capitol Hill Little League baseball team, the “Avec Nats.” CHLL offers baseball and softball opportunities for players ages 5-15. This is the second season Avec has sponsored a CHLL team.
