Avec on H Residents Connect, Support DC Businesses with #AtHomeWithAvec Challenge

A strong sense community is a hallmark of a WC Smith property, but in times such as these, forming and maintaining connections for all has become a challenge. However, the staff and residents of Avec on H, WC Smith’s newest residential property, have uniquely created a way to build ties with each other and support DC businesses during the COVID-19 crisis, while still honoring our stay-at-home lifestyle.

The Challenge gives Avec residents the opportunity to participate in a series of live virtual events in April/early May:

Cook With Us: Join St Anselm Executive Chef Marjorie Meek-Bradley for a cooking class.
Dance With Us: Learn the latest TikTok dances.
Drink With Us: Learn to craft some new cocktails.
Create With Us: Learn some soothing watercolor techniques

All participants will receive special-edition “Kindness is Contagious” shirts designed by Bailiwick, a Washington, DC-based business that describes itself as being “inspired by the pride and positive energy generated by the District of Columbia.” All proceeds from sales of the shirt benefit Hook Hall & the Restaurant Association Metropolitan Washington’s Coronavirus Workers Relief Fund, which is helping to support DC’s hospitality industry workers & their families during these uncertain times.

Residents are encouraged to share their pictures, tag Avec and use the hashtag #AtHomeWithAvec in their Instagram posts. Avec staff will choose their favorite post each week and that lucky resident will win a $50 gift certificate to a local neighborhood business so that the community can continue to support our neighbors.

“Many apartment communities in the city are using virtual technology to connect residents during the crisis, such as by offering online fitness classes,” said Holli Beckman, Vice President of Marketing and Leasing Operations for WC Smith. “We wanted to do something different to engage our residents, as well as provide a means for us all to support DC businesses.”

Located on H St. NE between 8th and 10th Streets NE, Avec is a 419-unit, market-rate building featuring luxury studio, 1- and 2-bedroom apartments. The first residents took occupancy in late January.
