WC Smith Donates $1 Million to 11th Street Bridge Park

WC Smith will donate $1 million to the 11th Street Bridge Park.

A project between Building Bridges Across the River and the DC Government, the Bridge Park will be Washington’s first elevated park. It will be built on the pilings and piers of the old 11th Street Bridge, crossing the Anacostia River and connecting the Anacostia and Capitol Hill neighborhoods.

The park will create a new venue for healthy recreation, environmental education and the arts unlike any other in the city. In addition, the Park has made a significant commitment to invest in affordable housing, workforce development and small business and cultural equity strategies. Project planners have incorporated feedback from residents living east of the Anacostia River, collected through many years of community meetings.

WC Smith Chairman and CEO Chris Smith founded Building Bridges as the nonprofit organization to fundraise for and manage THEARC. In 2022 the comp donated $1 million to Building Bridges as it develops a fourth building, which will be the new home for the Washington School for Girls.
