Project Description
The Shops at Park Village offer new and needed retail opportunities to the residents of Ward 8.
In 2001, the District awarded WC Smith the rights to redevelop the former Camp Simms military installation. After executing a lease with Giant Food, WCS Development retrofitted the adjacent Parklands strip center and added retail space to create 114,000 square feet of street-level retail.
The Giant Food store was the first new full service grocery store constructed in the Ward in nearly 40 years. IHOP opened at The Shops soon thereafter, and was the first sit-down restaurant to open in Ward 8 in 30 years. In 2019 Chipotle opened its first location east of the Anacostia River in DC at The Shops, making it the 20th venue for the fast-casual restaurant in the city. Dunkin is slated to open a location there in late 2025. Other retailers and foodservice establishments include two banks, Subway and Pizza Boli. The Parklands branch of the DC Public library is also located at The Shops.
The Shops is also home to Iona Senior Services’ Congress Heights location, the Washington Home Center, where it offers individualized therapeutic, social, and health services during the day for older adults.
