Aldi – welcome to Avec!
On June 5 the supermarket cut the ribbon in our property on H Street NE, marking its 3rd store in Washington.
Joining the many local residents excited for the opening were Ward 6 DC Councilmember Charles Allen and DC Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development Nina Albert. People lined up along the entire 2-block length of Avec to be among the first shoppers in the store.
The Germany-based discount grocer took over the space in Avec after Amazon cancelled plans to locate an Amazon Fresh store there. Amazon was aiming for a national roll-out of the Fresh concept but pulled back.
This Aldi, which covers 25,000 square feet, is about a mile away from another Aldi on 17th Street NE.
Other retailers at Avec include Veterinary Emergency Group, AT&T, a UPS store, Solidcore and Urban Nail Lounge.
Avec, with 419 units, opened in February 2020.
Rappaport is WC Smith’s retail partner at Avec, and managed the leasing process with Aldi.
