Congratulations to Glenda Walker, who is the recipient of the 2025 Bill Smith Award.
Glenda, a senior vice president of property management, was given the award at the corporate holiday party Dec. 12.
The award was established to honor Bill Smith, WC Smith’s founder, and recognize a colleague who embodies the values that Mr. Smith followed and set for the company:
- Integrity
- Honesty
- Loyalty
- Hard work
- Family values
In presenting the award, WC Smith President John Ritz noted that Mr. Smith and Glenda shared another trait: determination, or grit. “In her 37 years at WC Smith, I have never known her to refuse a challenge,” he said.
Glenda started her career at WC Smith at the front desk and then transitioned to the accounting department. Several years into her tenure she told her manager that she wanted to do more, something different than accounting. Maybe something in property management.
After a couple of assignments in property management she assumed the role of Community Manager for JETU. It’s a large property that needed help. Not necessarily a place for the inexperienced. Without hesitation she accepted.
She brought order to chaos while overseeing needed property upgrades to the point where JETU was thriving.
A few years later the company acquired Fairway Park, across the street from JETU. The 407-unit property required a complete rehab, which meant relocating all the residents and working with development on the extensive renovations.
She was offered the opportunity to take on the property management role at Fairway. Many would have said no, but Glenda never balked.
And to really no one’s surprise, she succeeded.
Glenda is fair and open. She takes ego out of the equation. Her ethos is to lead by example and help you get your job done in the best possible way.
